The England manager Questions Home Crowd Support Following Dominant Wales Victory.
Thomas Tuchel expressed his regret that the England team did not enjoy more backing from the home spectators during their decisive friendly win against Wales on Thursday night.
Tuchel was satisfied to see his team showcase their good form, with goals from Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the opening quarter effectively ending the game. Yet, he was unhappy with the energy at the iconic venue.
“We had limited sessions to prepare against a well-trained team and we did very well,” the coach remarked. “It could have been five goals ahead at the break. We missed the fourth and fifth goals. There was little noise. There was no support back from the stands. Our team gave their all to win.”
“What more can you provide in the first quarter? We didn’t let them escape. When you only hear just Wales fans for half an hour, it’s sad because the squad warranted greater backing today.”
“I maintain this statement. We cannot do more than leading three goals up in a rivalry match. I would have wished for a greater backing in periods where it gets difficult.”
“After halftime, to get behind us, there was excessive support for Wales. It might have aided us to regain energy, but it is what it is and so be it.”
Selection Choices Justified by Display
Away from potentially starting a dispute among supporters, Tuchel also caused a stir by excluding Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. But the decision was validated by Rogers excelling in the attacking midfield role and scoring his first international goal.
“That’s his style,” Tuchel noted. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is vying for his spot.”
Wales Manager Hopes for Lessons from Defeat
The Wales manager hopes that Wales, who host a strong Belgian side in a crucial qualifying match on next week, improve after their awful performance in the opening period.
“That’s the reason I scheduled this game,” Bellamy commented. “I wanted to assess our current level. Where do we want to go? Who do we want to be? Today fills me with inspiration.”
