Over 250 persons have been arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina, as part of continuing federal immigration enforcement operations, according to government statements.

Growing Federal Measures

Charlotte represents the newest American city to face strengthened federal presence, following similar operations in bigger metropolitan areas like Chicago and Los Angeles earlier this year. Federal authorities have stated that those apprehended include criminal elements and gang members.

Nonetheless, community representatives and inhabitants have actively protested the apprehensions, which federal officials have called "Operation Charlotte's Web". The state's chief executive has claimed that residents are being targeted based on their skin color.

Federal agencies have not announced how long the enforcement actions will continue. Chicago's operation began in September and remains in progress.
